Testicular Sperm Extraction (TESE)
Using today's minimally invasive techniques, sperm can be obtained from men with vasectomy; failed vasectomy reversal, absence of the vas deferens, or uncorrectable blockages anywhere along the seminal tract (obstructive azoospermia). In addition, we are able to retrieve and use sperm in case of non-obstructive Azoospermia or NOA.

TESE is the retrieval of sperm from the testis by means of testicular biopsy. When sperm are unable to move through the genital tract due to uncorrectable damage, sperm can be extracted directly from the testes via microsurgical techniques. Congenital absence of the vas deferens (CAVD) or failed sterilization reversal are other indications. Around the time that the woman has her eggs retrieved, the husband/male partner will undergo a surgical procedure that will take a very small piece of testicular tissue (TESE). For TESE the testicular tissue will be examined for the presence of sperm cells. These can then be injected into the oocyte via ICSI. |
